You want to fix any company? Sweep all the cash flows into Bitcoin, convert the treasury into Bitcoin, borrow against your future cash flows and dollars [and] convert that into Bitcoin, finance all your fixed assets in dollars [and] convert that into Bitcoin, and issue equity... at the highest valuation you can now in dollars and invest in Bitcoin.

Now, the [US dollar] is losing some percent of its purchasing power every year because it's being inflated away. And what's the number? Well, it was about 7% a year, and now it's like 20% a year. And 15-20% a year... The currency is weakening 1-2% per month. When it gets to be 40-50, it's collapsing. That's Argentina... or worse.

At the end of the day, it's not likely that the governments of all the world will just confiscate 90% of your crypto assets or your Bitcoin. But, in fact, it's a foregone conclusion that they're definitely going to confiscate 90% of your currency. It's happening at 1% a month or 2% a month right now. So, all you got to do is wait between 5 and 10 years and you're going to lose 90% of your money if it's in a currency or a currency derivative.

I think a lot of people live in fear of volatility, but a lot of people live in fear of a lot of things. If you have enough fear, you won't leave your house; you won't do anything ... You have to have a bit of courage and conviction. I can give you a thousand reasons why I think it makes sense to invest in Bitcoin. I can't give you any reason why I should be afraid to do a rational thing.

The Bitcoin narrative of digital gold... It's not 10x better than gold; it's 100x. Maybe it's 1,000x better than gold.

The reason that Bitcoin is magical is because there's only 21 million. I can create more real estate in New York City. I can create more cars. I can create more luxury watches. I can create more gold. I can create more shares of stock. I can create more bonds. I can create any commodity ... Given enough money and time, I can create infinite of any of them. Bitcoin is a scarcity. Name another scarcity in the world. Technically, it's not clear there is another scarcity.

The big disservice we do is we tell people you have to spend something for it to have value. You don't have to spend shares of Apple stock for it to have value. It's such a freaking stupid thing to say ... Mark Zuckerberg never spent a share of Facebook stock to be rich.

The single most important thing in the world for everyone—for everyone: 7.8 billion people, for 100 million companies, for everyone with money on Earth or everyone that earns a salary on Earth—this is the big idea of the podcast: You have to estimate the rate at which the currency is going to expand.

The strongest currency in the world is the dollar. That's not money. You're losing 99% of your wealth over the course of 90 years in the US dollar, maybe more. The only difference between the US dollar and the peso is where as it takes 20 years to lose your family's fortune in the peso, it takes about 90 years to lose your family's fortune in the dollar.

Let's go back to October of 2020 ... I think Bitcoin was 12,800, or maybe 11,800; and NASDAQ was, like, 11,000 and change; and gold was higher than it is now. And if you roll the clock forward 24 months, Bitcoin is up by not quite a factor of 3 but about a factor of 2.75. Gold is down. NASDAQ is sideways.

Well, Bitcoin's the best performing asset for the past decade. And it's 100x better than gold, and it's 10x better than equity portfolios. So, the volatility is the price you pay for the performance that you get. And, oftentimes, the best idea isn't the most comfortable investment idea.

I really think that the best way to understand Bitcoin is it's digital property for 8 billion people, and it's going to demonetize other forms of property in the same way that digital books sucked the information out of libraries, and actual books, and universities; and the same way that digital music sucked the music out of your CDs, and your records, and your phonograph, and your piano, and the orchestra.

Bitcoin is the most difficult property that the human race possesses or has yet invented to confiscate—and that's by virtue of the fact that you could take possession of it via your private key. So, if you got your 12 seed phrases in your head, then that would be the highest form of property, because I literally have to crack your head open and read your mind to take it. It doesn't mean I couldn't extract it from you under duress, but it means that it's harder than every other thing you might own. In fact, it's exponentially harder.

The human condition is elevated via the channeling of energy, and every great advance was a new form of energy via metallic energy in the form of steel or electrical energy or chemical energy, and Bitcoin is the next evolution of that.

You shouldn't have any money in a bank. You're basically losing 7% of all your wealth every year in a good year if it's the dollar. You're losing 15% of your wealth in a not good year if it's the dollar. You're absolutely losing all your money over the course of a decade.

Bitcoin is an exploding asset class ... It's the greatest treasury reserve asset of our lifetimes, and it's the solution to every company's treasury problem.

I don't really think that Bitcoin is going to be currency in the US ever, nor do I think it should be. I really think, logically, it should be treated as property. It's like owning a building or owning a bar of gold or owning a share of stock—it's property.

Every successful investment idea in the 21st century was a digital transformation—digital transformation of music, digital transformation of entertainment, digital transformation of books, digital communications. Bitcoin's the digital transformation of everything else.

We could create $100T of value in the real world simply by building applications on top of Bitcoin as a foundation. Continually trying to reinvent the wheel and create competitive things is a massive waste of time, and it's a diversion of human creativity.

Well, why is cash trash? Well, if the money supply is expanding at 7% a year, then the risk-free hurdle rate is 7%. If you don't generate more than 7% yield on your cash, then it's de-valuing.

The connection of Bitcoin to crypto has been holding it back ... The connection of Bitcoin to SHIB or Dogecoin, this holds back a public entity from wanting to get into that space.

The official inflation rate in Argentina is 105% ... And if the inflation rate is running 100%, that means your money is losing half of its value every 12 months. That means that, within 10 years, you have nothing.

I think that the rest of crypto takes a shortcut. The shortcut is issuing unregistered securities. So, there really isn't an example that I can think of of any kind of smart contract network or proof-of-stake or crypto network that competes with Bitcoin that didn't take the shortcut of an unregistered security. They're not decentralized.

I would say year one of lightning was 2021 ... I think you'll see an explosion of really cool applications built on the lightning protocol, because lightning reduced the cost to move Bitcoin by a factor of 100,000 or something.

You can liquidate a billion dollars in Bitcoin on the weekend in any currency any time. Try liquidating a billion-dollar building. It's a three-year process.

Gold is no longer a store of value for monetary energy. That's why it's up 0% in a year where the S&P 500 is up 400%. It's pretty clear the marketplace thinks that stocks are a better store of value than gold.

It's not that hard to see that this is a $25-50 trillion/year problem for anybody with assets on Earth. It's very rare that you find a technology [Bitcoin] that's the solution to every rich person's problem and every poor person's problem simultaneously.

Bitcoin is the greatest brand in the history of the world.

Bitcoin is the first point in human history were engineering impinged on economics.

Bitcoin is the greatest monetary network that the human race has ever developed. And it's certainly the dominant one right now, and it looks like it's going to be continue to be the dominant one for as long as we live.

I can move any amount of Bitcoin in a matter of minutes for dollars on layer 1. But the second important feature of layer 1 is I need the money to last forever. I need the money indestructible and immortal. So, the bigger trick is not to move a billion dollars from here to Tokyo; the big trick is to move a billion dollars from here to the year 2140.

I think probably the most valuable thing that I learned from MIT was to think from first principles and to be intellectually fearless.

Nobody wants to invest in a company that makes a lot of money growing at 5% a year.

I think of Bitcoin as like that shining city in cyberspace where billions of people will eventually want to live.

History teaches us that the winning civilizations, the winners in the history of mankind, are the civilizations that channel energy more effectively through time and space.
