I often ask founding teams, 'Do you use your product? How much do you love your product? Is it embodying your habits?' ... In the consumer world, that's foundational. If you don't love your product and use it all the time and haven't shifted over completely... it's going to be really hard for you to convince others to.

If I were telling somebody to go pick a new trend that's going to generate these ten or hundred billion-dollar companies in the future, I would tell them to become an expert on digital health and genomics.

There are very few ideas that have never been tried before. It's all about getting the right product at the right time with the right trend and wave.

You need to maintain this nice balance between believing in yourself and believing in your product and believing in the mission but also being relentlessly skeptical that you've nailed it.

It's so important to understand your growth and to find a durable, sustainable, repeatable channel ... If you can't sustain it through your own engine and your own effort, it is easy to have a Google algorithm change, a Facebook algorithm change, or a business development person or CEO decide to shut you down, and that, all of a sudden, can take your growth away.

I have a friend who sold his company for $997 million. He walked away with $3 million.

If you're recruiting the guy like me 15 years ago, you tell that story of why you believe your thing will grow 10-100x over the next 5 years, and you figure out how to reveal enough of the secrets so that I go 'Whoa, I really believe that, and I want in.'
